Seahawks have no timetable for Percy Harvin’s return from hip surgery

The Seattle Seahawks hope to have wide receiver Percy Harvin back on the field this season, but head coach Pete Carroll said on Friday that there is no timetable for his return from hip surgery.

Carroll did say that the surgeon who operated on Harvin was "thrilled" with how the $60 million wideout responded in the days after the procedure.

"No, we don’t know that yet. We just know that the surgeon who did the work, the specialist, was thrilled with the way that he came back during the days right after the surgery," Carroll said. "He was pleased with his ability to get range of motion because that was way ahead of schedule.

"So that’s a great sign that they transferred to us. So we’re hopeful. It’s going to take a good month before we will be able to figure out if he is even going to have a chance to come roaring back out of it. But the signs are very good and so we’ll see what that means. We’re not putting any number of weeks on him because we don’t know."

Harvin, who is guaranteed $25.5 million over the next two seasons, is currently on the "Active/Physically Unable to Perform" list and will likely open the regular season on either the "Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform" list. Under the new rules for players on the PUP list, Harvin could start his 21-day practice window as early as after Week 6 (Oct. 15) or as late in the season as after Week 11 (Nov. 19), which means the Seahawks can be smart in his rehabilitation and get him back on the field for a final month schedule that features tough games against the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams.
