Boise State quarterbacks Joe Southwick and Nick Patti suspended ‘until further notice’ UPDATE: Southwick sent home
Could Boise State be playing the Hawaii Bowl on Tuesday with just a single quarterback available?
Quarterbacks Joe Southwick, a senior, and redshirt freshman Nick Patti are suspended 'until further notice,' per interim coach Bob Gregory, who declined to reveal if the two would be available for the game on Christmas Eve.
Interim coach Bob Gregory told reporters Friday that, “right now they are suspended for the game,” but later backtracked slightly when asked about their status and said, “they are suspended right now, until further notice.”
Gregory also declined to reveal if the incident was related to something that happened in Hawaii or in Idaho.
If the two quarterbacks are out, that would leave Grant Hedrick as the lone quarterback on the Boise roster. Hedrick replaced Southwick after Southwick suffered a broken ankle against Nevada on Oct. 19. He was able to return for senior day against New Mexico on Nov. 30 where he played the first possession before giving way to Hedrick.
Gregory is the Broncos' interim coach after coach Chris Petersen went to Washington. Bryan Harsin, the former Arkansas State coach, will take over the team after the bowl game.
UPDATE: Southwick has been sent home from the game, while Patti has been reinstated. He'll back up Hedrick like he did when Southwick was out because of his injury.
