Toomey supports ‘Don’t Ask’ repeal

Senator-elect Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania said in a statement today he supports repealing the military's ban on gay service. Sitting GOP Sens. Scott Brown, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe now publicly back repeal, which would give Sen. Harry Reid 61 votes if he brings repeal to a vote in the lame-duck session.

"As I've said previously, my highest priority is to have the policy that best enables our armed services to do their job," Toomey said. "Our civilian and professional military leadership have now spoken and said we should repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell. I would support a free-standing measure to do so."
