President’s personal letter to girl with two dads

There's no doubt the president is a very busy man, but still he found time to respond to a letter from a 10-year-old girl, the daughter of two gay men, who thanked him for his support of her family. After you read the letter, you'll understand why.

Proud papa Jonathan Bailey posted the letter on his Facebook page and wrote, "Totally unprompted, our amazing 10 year-old decided to write this letter to Barack Obama, and it made Triton Klugh and I so unbelievably proud." Bailey and Klugh are the two fathers of Sophia Bailey-Klugh. Bailey then admitted, "And maybe we teared up a little."

Sophia's heartfelt letter, which surfaced on Gawker and Huffington Post, includes a drawing of her two dads kissing and thanks the president for supporting marriage equality. She then asks the president for his advice about being teased at school for having two gay fathers.

The president responded personally, in the midst of the hard-fought election, with this detailed letter. It reads in part,

"You and I are blessed to live in a country where we are born equal no matter what we look like on the outside, where we grow up, or who our parents are," Obama wrote. "A good rule is to treat others the way you hope they will treat you. Remind your friends at school about this rule if they say something that hurts your feelings."

"You are very fortunate to have two parents who care deeply for you. They are lucky to have such an exceptional daughter in you."
