Plane damaged in collision with bird

A jet carrying 151 passengers landed safely at Denver International Airport after declaring an emergency when a bird damaged the nose of the plane.

United Airlines flight 1475 from Dallas-Fort Worth apparently stuck a large bird as it was descending into Denver. There were no injuries reported, according to ABC News.

Pictures from the airport showed a large hole in the nose of the Boeing 737.

Bird collisions with airplanes can be dangerous when they damage engines, the windshield and certain other parts of the plane, CBS Local Denver reports. ABC News reports that bird collisions with airplanes cause $600 million in damages to the airlines each year.

The most notable plane crash involving birds was the 2009 water landing in the Hudson River by Capt. Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger, where all 158 passengers survived.
