Daughter of former N.Y. Post owner arrested for heroin

Kathryn Kalikow, daughter of multimillionaire Peter Kalikow, former owner of the New York Post, was arrested on Sunday in connection with the sale of heroin to an undercover police officer.

Kathryn Kalikow, 27, and Brian Whalen, 28, allegedly arranged the sale on Craigslist. The New York Daily News reports that the couple's Craigslist ad was surprisingly straightforward. "Discreet & professional ... high quality diesel pain relief,” the ad read, according to court documents. The post then listed a variety of nicknames for the drug: "Stamps, H train, dope, bundlers, tickets, dog food."

An undercover detective responded. The couple allegedly then sent him a text message saying, "It'll be $400 and an extra $40 to deliver it."

According to the New York Post, Whalen stood at the rendezvous point, waiting. He was then approached by the undercover officer. Both Whalen and Kalikow were arrested. The two have pleaded not guilty. On Monday, they were arraigned in the Bronx.

According to court papers, Whalen said that the Craigslist ad was his idea. "I need treatment. I am a heroin addict, and to afford the drugs I agreed to sell some of the drug on consignment from the person I buy from,” he said.

Peter Kalikow owned the New York Post from 1988 to 1994. He owns a New York real estate firm and once served as commissioner of the Port Authority.

“Mary [mother of Kathryn] and I are very concerned, and all we are concentrating on now is helping our daughter,” he said in a statement on Monday.
