Buffalo hospital shooting: surgeon wanted for questioning

At least one person is dead after a shooting outside a Buffalo, N.Y., hospital on Wednesday.

The shooting occurred at the Erie County Medical Center campus around 8:15 a.m. The apparent victim, a woman, was fatally shot.

Police and a SWAT team were called in after reports of shots being fired. The medical center's campus was on lockdown, according to the Associated Press.

According to NBC's WGRZ Buffalo affiliate, the shooting occurred away from the hospital's main building.

WGRZ described the shooting as "a domestic situation."

UPDATE, 10:30 p.m. ET: Police say Dr. Timothy Jorden is wanted as "a person of interest" in connection with the shooting. The victim, Jackie Wisniewski, a 33-year-old nursing student, is the 49-year-old doctor's former lover.

Authorities searched Jorden's Lakeview, N.Y., home, late Wednesday, but did not find him.

Jorden, a former Army Special Forces surgeon, should be considered armed and dangerous, police cautioned.
