Lenovo chairman shares $3.25 million of his bonus with his staff

Talk about boosting workplace morale.

A company spokesperson has confirmed that Lenovo chairman Yang Yuanqing, 48, will be sharing $3.25 million of his bonus with about 10,000 staff members throughout China and 19 other countries.

This isn't the first generous move by Yang. Last year, he also shared his $3 million annual bonus to employees.

The bonus celebrates Lenovo's second straight year of posting record sales, Bloomberg reported.

"This payment is personally funded by Yuanqing," Gina Qiao, senior vice president of human resources at Lenovo, wrote a memo to workers. "He believes that he has the responsibility as an owner of the company, and the opportunity as our leader, to ensure all of our employees understand the impact they have on building Lenovo."

All employees will receive the same amount: just over $300.

"As you can imagine, an extra $300 in a manufacturing environment in China does make an impact, especially to employees supporting families," spokesperson Angela Lee told USA Today.

"This is quite rare, especially for a chairman of a Chinese company, to use his personal money as a bonus to reward employees," said Kirk Yang, a managing director at Barclays in Hong Kong.

In April, the CEO of British department store Next shared his $3.75 million bonus with his 19,400 employees.

And in March of 2012, the creator of Minecraft distributed $3 million of his 2011 Mojang dividends among his 25 employees.

Bosses of the world, this is how to make your employees love you forever.
