Secrets About the Surprising Cutup of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Andre Braugher is full of surprises.

Few expected the two-time Emmy winner, celebrated for his dramatic roles, to star in a sitcom.

As police Capt. Ray Holt, the actor is playing the straight man — although his character is gay — to comedian Andy Samberg. It's a far cry from his fiery Marcus Chaplin, a submarine commander who launched a nuclear missile at Washington, D.C., in ABC's short-lived "Last Resort."

Even behind the scenes, his co-stars have come to expect the unexpected.

Co-star Chelsea Peretti, who plays the precinct's quirky office manager, told Yahoo TV that she was startled to learn "how much he wears cargo shorts."

"I had no idea," she said. "I'd never seen him outside of character, so that was a cool surprise."

"He also sings a lot," she revealed, "and listens to a lot of music."

And Samberg added, "Andre Braugher is more of a cutup than people think."
