Jimmy Kimmel to host 2012 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner

Jimmy Kimmel has been named host of the 2012 White House Correspondents' Association dinner. The late-night host of ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" will be the featured comedian at the 98th annual dinner on April 28, 2012.

Kimmel's brand of humor is "sophisticated and edgy while appealing to a wide audience," said WHCA president Caren Bohan, a staffer at Reuters. He joins a long list of entertainers--from Bob Hope to Jon Stewart--to emcee the proceedings.

In recent years, the event--part celebration of the White House press corps, part presidential roast--has become a celebrity-filled affair, guest lists peppered with A-list stars.

At the 2011 dinner hosted by "Saturday Night Live" head writer Seth Meyers, Donald Trump showed up, and was promptly skewered by both Meyers and President Obama.

"Donald Trump is here tonight," Obama said. "Now I know he's taken some flack lately, but no one is happier to put the birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald. And that's because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter, like, 'Did we fake the moon landing?' 'What really happened in Roswell?' And, 'Where are Biggie and Tupac?' "

"Donald Trump has been saying that he will run for president as a Republican," Meyers said. "Which is surprising, because I had assumed he was running as a joke."

As is tradition, Meyers roasted Obama, too.

"When you were sworn in, you looked like the guy from those Old Spice commercials," Meyers said. "Now you look like Louis Gossett, Sr. Is this the 'change' you were talking about?"

He added: "If your hair gets any whiter, the tea party is going to endorse it."
