World-record bratwurst planned for Oktoberfest at Federal Plaza

You will find not only beer, but possibly historical significance, as Oktoberfest returns later Thursday in Federal Plaza.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, festival organizer Carlyn Berghoff is the fourth generation of her family heading the 112-year-old restaurant company, best known for the iconic eatery at 17 W. Adams St.
"I'm president and CEO, bottle washer, mop-floor cleaner, trash-taker-outer, whatever you want me to do," she said.
On Thursday, Berghoff is presiding over a Guinness World Record attempt to cook a 45-foot-long bratwurst.
"We are putting together eight grills, and we're going to light half of the grill and cook it on that half, and then we're going to roll it onto the bun, and then we're going to serve it right off the grills," she said.
Berghoff is also hoping to beat last year's record selling 12,000 bratwurst, and is raising money for the Mercy Home for Children during the 26th annual Oktoberfest in Federal Plaza, at Dearborn and Adams streets.
