Is 'Modern Family' Cast Really One Big Happy Family?
They stole the spotlight at the 64th Annual Primetime Emmys, winning the award for best comedy series for the third straight year, and smiling as they competed against each other for trophies in the supporting actor and actress categories.
They even smiled through a headline-grabbing spoof that cast the actress behind the show's youngest character, Lily, as the terror-making diva among them.

But is the cast of " Modern Family" really what they portray, one big happy family that smiles and grins and congratulates each others' success?
They are, says Ty Burrell, the actor who portrays the show's accident-prone father of three, Phil Dunphy.
"We do kind of consider ourselves a weird sort of family, a fake family," Burrell said today on " Good Morning America."

"That's actually the most fun," he said of the moment Sunday night when the entire cast stood on the Emmy stage to accept the best-comedy trophy. "For all of us to be up there at the same time is a lot of fun. Especially the writers who are the reason we are still employed. They're amazing."

The "Modern Family" writers are known for giving the actors hilarious material to portray in the show's modern look at 21 st century family life, but on Emmy night it was Burrell's co-star, bombshell actress Sofia Vergara, who fell victim to a real-life gag that could have been scripted straight from the show.

Twenty minutes before "Modern Family" won the best-comedy trophy, the mermaid-inspired Zuhair Murad gown Vergara, 40, had squeezed into split open. The actress tweeted a picture of the damage, exposing a clear view of her rear end, along with the caption, "Yes!!!! This happened 20 min before we won!!!! Jajajajja. I luv my life!!!!"
"Sophia showed me a picture and there's no discernible difference from her cleavage," Burrell said today on "GMA." "I was like, 'Well it's a lovely dress. It's a lovely dress, what's the problem?'"

"She would say it too," Burrell said of his co-star, who went on to boogie down to bongos played by her fiancé, businessman Nick Loeb, at the HBO after-party. "She is awesome. She puts it all out there."
Vergara partied hard despite losing in the best-supporting-actress category to her co-star, and Burrell's on-screen wife, Julie Bowen.

Bowen, a repeat winner, paid tribute to Vergara in her acceptance speech, something Burrell said is true to form for the mother of three, onscreen and in real life.
"That's her," he said. "I think you can tell that she wasn't expecting it because she's a humble person. She was kind of like taken off guard and that's her nature. She's a good humble person."
