Florida Woman Hopes to Break World Record with More Than 700 Pairs of Converse Sneakers

Penny Gold, a retired teacher, has a strange addiction. The 63-year-old owns 733 different pairs of Converse low-top and high-top sneakers - and is hoping to break the Guinness world record, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Gold lives in Lake Mary, Fla., and spent Thursday "authenticating" her collection along with friends and former co-workers at the school where she once worked. When the report is finished, she will send it to England where officials from the Guinness Book of World Records will decide whether or not the shoe fits.

The current record is set at 403 pairs of Converse sneakers.

Gold reportedly grew up wearing Converse sneakers in Brooklyn, N.Y. She and her husband, Barry, moved to Florida 20 years ago, when she began to collect the shoes, according to the Sentinel. Now, her collection is held in a walk-in closet custom built by her husband.

Gold reportedly visits Converse outlets regularly in Central Florida, where the employees know her by name and set aside the most unusual pairs for her collection, the paper added.
