A $325 million Powerball jackpot, the fourth largest in the lottery's history, could make this holiday season especially sweet for a lucky winner, if there is one.

Despite the swelling jackpot, ticket sales have been lower than usual, likely because of the holiday weekend, Powerball officials said.

In Colorado, one of 42 states where Powerball tickets are sold, only 1.9 million of the tickets have been purchased. By comparison, 3.5 million tickets were sold in the state before a big drawing in August.

To entice players in Idaho, the state lottery offered a Black Friday special offering a free Powerball ticket with the purchase of a state raffle ticket.

If one person's ticket matches all five numbers along with the Powerball number, that winner will receive a $212.8 million lump sum before taxes. If the winner chooses the annuity option, he or she will receive annual installments for 29 years equal to the full $325 million.

According to Powerball's website, the odds of winning Saturday's jackpot are 1 in 175,223,510.

If nobody wins tonight, the next drawing, on Wednesday, could top $425 million.

Powerball is played in 42 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Only California, Nevada, Hawaii, Alaska, Mississippi, Alabama, Utah, and Wyoming do not participate in the multi-state game.
