If you're tired of chocolates and find rose bouquets passé, the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, Calif. has come up with a far more decadent way to celebrate Valentine's Day; their "Ultimate Romance Package," price is $30,000.
The special night in the hotel's "Tournament of Roses" suite (Pasadena is home to the Rose Bowl and the Rose Parade) comes with a bottle of champagne, a couple's massage, a five-course tasting menu at the hotel's much lauded restaurant, Royce, a piece of custom-made diamond jewelry, and the ultimate luxury - a late checkout.
"It's perfect for that couple that's looking to do something really over the top," said Elsa Schelin, the Langham's director of communications. "We wanted something that really stood out."
The rate for the luxury suite is normally $5,000 per night, and Krug champagne goes for $200 per bottle. But those indulgences are so fleeting.
Diamonds, however, will last forever. Accounting for two-thirds of the package's cost is the custom jewelry. The Single Stone on Mission Street, an upscale jewelry boutique in nearby San Marino, will meet with the Langham's guests and customize any piece of jewelry valued up to $20,000.
First opened as a hotel in 1907, the Langham is located nine miles outside of Los Angeles on 23 acres of land. Schelin says the hotel wanted to put together a special that would match the property, which was named the top hotel in Los Angeles by U.S. News + World Report.
"It's this beautiful grand dame of a hotel," said Schelin. "When people come, they feel they're getting away from it all."
While there have been no takers yet, Schelin says that the hotel has just started gearing up for Valentine's Day and she's hopeful that the package will be booked by Feb 14.
