South Florida temperatures could plunge into low 30s and 40s overnight

Grab your blankets and crank up the heat, South Florida — a blast of arctic air is headed our way.

The coldest temperatures of the season are expected to push into the region Sunday night. Broward and Palm Beach residents could see temperatures dip to the low 40s. Wind chills could drop into the 30s, forecasters said.

A frost advisory has been issued for inland Palm Beach County from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday, with temperatures potentially reaching as low as 33 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas closer to the coast will be warmer, in the mid-40s, forecasters said.

Homeless Voice, an advocacy group for South Florida’s homeless, announced it will be distributing scarves, blankets, warm clothing, and more, to those in need Sunday from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The organization’s drive-by distribution route will begin in Plantation at SW 136 Avenue and I-595 and the surrounding bridges; then proceed to Griffin Road and State Road 7 in Davie; next traveling up and down Federal Highway, before heading over to the beach, north of Sheridan Street. They’ll finish up in Hallandale Beach, with stops up and down US 1 and Hallandale Beach Boulevard, said advocate Sean Cononie on behalf of Homeless Voice.

Cononie said they plan to repeat the route again Monday starting at 6 p.m.

Chances of rain are low through Monday.A high risk of rip currents for Broward and West Palm Beach could last into Tuesday, according to the weather service.
