It’s no secret that women in Hollywood (slash women everywhere) endure sexist double standards on a literal daily basis. Which is why we are literally cheering over the fact that Blake Lively responded to a sexist question from a reporter in the most perfect and eloquent way possible.

The incident happened today at Variety’s Power of Women Luncheon while Blake was answering questions from press, specifically when one of the reporters asked her a question about clothes.

“Are we really doing this? Would you ask a man that?” Lively asked the person.

She then implored the reporter to “become more aware” of such behavior to help bring about change. A portion of the exchange was caught on camera below.

WE ARE JUMPING FOR JOY OVER THIS. Instead of letting the exchange slide, Blake turned it into a teachable moment (and then invited the reporter to ask her more questions, no less!). We are so proud of this lady, and we are so glad she is leading by example on this front.

Lively was one of several women recognized at the event, and others included Jessica Chastain, Audra McDonald, Gayle King, and Chelsea Clinton. She even spoke on one of her passion causes — eradicating child pornography.

Again, we are feeling so inspired by Blake and her actions, and are hoping her words will make members of the media consider the sexist double standards their seemingly “harmless” questions often help perpetuate.
