BlackBerry’s 2014 roadmap leaks – is there anything to get excited about?

BlackBerry fans hoping that the second half of 2014 might include a few surprises are in for a bit of a letdown. BlackBerry fan blog N4BB has leaked what it claims to be an authentic 2014 roadmap for BlackBerry device launches, and sadly, there is precious little to get excited about.

It looks like only two noteworthy BlackBerry phones will launch in the second half this year, and we already know about both of them. The first is the peculiar and boxy BlackBerry Passport, and the second is the peculiar and less boxy Porsche Design BlackBerry “Khan” P’9983. Both phones appear set to be released late in the third quarter this year.

That’s it.

The same slide deck reveals that BlackBerry is taking a four-pronged approach to the smartphone market now, addressing what the company has identified as four key groups of smartphone users.

Will the two phones BlackBerry has yet to launch this year and the company’s new four-pronged strategy pay off? BlackBerry shares are up nearly 35% so far in 2014, so investors certainly appear to be confident that BlackBerry is on the proper path.
