FORT MILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — South Carolina leaders announced Stanley Black & Decker’s Fort Mill plant will close this year with 192 jobs on the chopping block.

Stanley Black & Decker’s Pleasant Road warehouse said they’ll close up shop sometime between early May and the end of the year. Company officials notified the state on Monday.

The plant makes DEWALT cordless power tools, along with other personal power tools items, at that location.

According to a 2007 news release, the company was opening the 345,000-square-foot plant with a projected $31 million investment in the community and an estimated 500 jobs.

In 2007, Stanley Black & Decker Global Tools and Storage President Jeff Ansell said the company operated 30 manufacturing plants.

Currently, the company’s website boasts 50 plants nationwide.

This week’s filing was the first mention of a Rock Hill-area plant this year. Already, 11 South Carolina plants have made the layoff list.
