EXPERIENCE — Prior to joining Merck & Co., he was a partner in Philadelphia at the law firm of Drinker Biddle & Reath. He joined Merck in 1992 as vice president, general counsel and moved up the corporate ladder to executive vice president and general counsel by 2006. From 2007 to 2010, he served as executive vice president and president of the global human health unit. Since 2010, he has been president of Merck.
MEMBERSHIPS — In addition to his new role as a director of Merck, he serves on the boards of Exxon Mobil Corp., Pennsylvania State University, and the Cornerstone Christian Academy in Philadelphia. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, The Council of the American Law Institute, and the American Bar Association.
