Billy Joel plays impromptu concert on discarded piano in New York street
Billy Joel has been recorded in a video playing an impromptu concert on a discarded piano left out on the street.
The clip, shared recently on YouTube, shows Joel playing the abandoned instrument in Huntington, Long Island.
“Not bad,” he says afterwards. “The action is good. Just needs tuning, and the finish is beat.”
Joel adds: “It’s a perfectly good piano! It’s a shame to throw it out.”
The Piano Man then suggests the instrument should be donated to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, a voluntary organisation that operates a thrift store in Huntington.
A representative for Joel confirmed to CNN that Joel is the man featured in the video.
The Independent has contacted Joel’s representative for more information.
Joel, who grew up in Hicksville, Long Island, has rescheduled several shows due to the coronavirus pandemic, including some at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
