Billy Bob Thornton chows down on Fort Worth Hurtado BBQ at Taylor Sheridan’s ranch

Actor Billy Bob Thornton was spotted chowing down local barbecue at a catered event while in town filming “Landman,” Taylor Sheridan’s latest television production.

Arlington-founded Hurtado Barbecue catered the event at Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch in Weatherford over the weekend, restaurant owner Brandon Hurtado told the Star-Telegram. Thornton was there for the event and later posed for a photo with Hurtado.

“He was really down-to-earth and really cool to talk to in-person,” Hurtado said.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Hurtado referenced a famous line from Thornton’s 2003 comedy “Bad Santa”.

Hurtado said he and Thornton didn’t talk much about barbecue, in fact, the conversation stayed on Mexican cuisine.

Thornton informed Hurtado that he’s a big fan of Fort Worth’s Joe T. Garcia’s and has been going there for over 20 years. The Mexican restaurant documented Thornton’s latest visit on social media just last month.

Now that Thornton has tried Hurtado’s, the next goal is to get the actor’s “Landman” co-star Jon Hamm, who has also frequented the local culinary scene, to stop by.

“We gotta work on that,” Hurtado said.

Hurtado Barbecue is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Sunday in Fort Worth at 1116 8th Ave. The flagship Arlington location is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Sunday in Arlington at 205 E. Front St. A new Mansfield location is now open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Sunday at 226 N. Walnut Creek Drive.

Why is Billy Bob Thornton hanging around Fort Worth?

Thornton is in town filming “Landman,” the latest series from North Texas native Taylor Sheridan.

The show began production in Fort Worth last month and is expected to film in and around North Texas for the next few months. Thornton stars in the show alongside Hamm, Demi Moore and Ali Larter.

“Landman” is co-created and executive produced by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, which is based on Texas Monthly’s podcast “Boomtown” that Wallace wrote and hosted.

The show’s synopsis reads, “Landman is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and is a modern day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

“Landman” will debut on Paramount+.
