BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Bills general manager Brandon Beane will get to show off his arm next week when he throws out the ceremonial first pitch at the Buffalo Bisons season opener.

The Bisons open the 2024 campaign at 2:05 p.m. Friday, March 29 when the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders visit Sahlen Field.

Opening Day also includes a magnetic schedule giveaway and, in a nod to the frigid temperatures still in play in late March, an ice scraper giveaway to the first 2,000 fans through the Swan Street gate. Gates open at noon.

While Beane is known more for his salary cap gymnastics than his shoulder cannon, throwing out the first pitch offers the former high school quarterback a rare opportunity to outdo one of his top-paid players on the field. Josh Allen, the Bills’ quarter-billion-dollar man, famously bounced his ceremonial first pitch short of the plate before a Blue Jays-Yankees game in Buffalo in 2021, though he was throwing off the mound and wearing a face covering.

Other events on the Bisons’ Opening Weekend include “Kids Cheer Free” games on Saturday and Sunday, where children 14 and under get a free ticket with an adult ticket purchase at the box office. Both games begin at 1:05 p.m.

Both Opening Weekend games will also include a pre-game “Mascot Meet n’ Greet” and an in-game Easter egg hunt.

The Bisons announced a handful of other new items for the 2024 season earlier this week, including new food offerings and a Hispanic Heritage themed jersey to be worn at three home games this season.
