Bill Cosby accusers tell 'Today' show that he 'mocked' them in court
Two of Bill Cosby’s accusers, Lili Bernard and Victoria Valentino, as well as attorney Gloria Allred, joined the Today show this morning to discuss Bill Cosby’s conviction. The Emmy-winning entertainer and comedian, now 80, was found guilty in a Pennsylvania court Thursday on three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault. Bernard, who was present during the trial, described what she observed in the courtroom. “When the victims were crying and sobbing, he was laughing. He was scowling; he was mocking them,” Bernard said.
More than 60 women have come forward to accuse Cosby of sexual misconduct, casting the person once known as “America’s Dad” in a completely new light. “This is the side of Bill Cosby that we know,” Valentino said. “The general public believes the character that he portrays; they don’t see the real person behind that character.” The two women told Today that they now feel at peace; Bernard, who was brought to tears, added that she “feels like she can move on with her life.”
Allred, who has represented multiple women who have come forward with allegations against Cosby, said this is just the beginning. “This is now about the empowerment of women. This is now about women being believed in a way that they never were before. And anyone who is in power, who abuses that power … beware, because women will speak out, and they will not be silenced or intimidated anymore.”
