New Bill Would Make Abortions Totally Illegal

Rewire is reporting that Iowa Republican Representative Steve King has introduced a Congressional bill that would constitute a total abortion ban on a federal level.
H.R. 490 would prohibit abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat is detected. As The Cut points out, this can occur as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, which is before many women even know they're pregnant.
In a press release, King said: “Since Roe v. Wade was unconstitutionally decided in 1973, nearly 60 million innocent babies’ lives have been ended by the abortion industry, all with a rubber stamp by the federal government. If a heartbeat is detected, the baby is protected.”
Although the bill is unlikely to pass the House or Senate, it's still considered a troublesome warning for those who value women's fundamental right to bodily autonomy.
