The Biggest Trends at Salone del Mobile

Throughout the year, Architectural Digest's market department scours showrooms, stores, fairs, and design centers for the best new products on the market and then brings its favorites to AD PRO. Instead of a product roundup, this week, Market Director Parker Bowie Larson is switching it up in honor of Salone del Mobile, sharing the the trends she is seeing on the horizon and the products that best demonstrate their staying power.

Pattern on Pattern

The 1970s pattern craze is back, but companies are updating the era's geometrics and patterns in a more contemporary way. Clockwise from mid-left: The Périmétre trays by Hermés are inspired by elements such as bricks, palisades, and louvers of urban landscapes. Kartell tapped La Double J to update some of their iconic pieces with her whimsical patterns including the Componobili side table, Clap chair and Trix Lounge. Not to be outdone, Armani Casa introduced their new Niven geometric wood inlay and lacquer boxes that match a scarf from their RTW collection.

Powder Blue

Millennial pink is still going strong, but there is a new kid on the block that may be giving it a run for its money. Baby blue was everywhere at the fair, and this calming color is here to stay. Native to the Americas, this prickly plant is popping up everywhere in the design world from vent hoods to objets! It's a low-maintenance way to bring the outdoors in. Curve Your Enthusiasm

Color Is So Hot Right Now

Milan was ablaze with color this year, and the brighter the better. Some decided to use it as a backdrop for their installations or as a pop for a furniture piece. Here are some of the ones that stood out. Clockwise from left: Armani Casa used their bright fabrics as a backdrop for their new collections; Hermés created a city out of colorful Moroccan tiles; Louis Vuitton created a hot pink room for their Campana Brothers sofa and updated their swing in hot pink.
