Big Stone Gap man dies in woodworking shop fire, VSP reports

BIG STONE GAP, Va. (WJHL) – A man died in a woodworking shop fire in Big Stone Gap Monday, according to the Virginia State Police (VSP).

State police report the Big Stone Gap Fire Department was called to a fire at a home and outbuilding on East Spring St. South. Crews were called to the fire at 3:22 p.m. Monday.

VSP identifies person killed in Grundy fire

After crews put out the fire, a body was found in the outbuilding. VSP identified the deceased as Jimmy C. Kennedy, 57.

Kennedy lived at the home and used the outbuilding as a woodworking shop, VSP reports.

State police determined no one was in the home at the time of the fire.

As of Wednesday, the cause of the fire remained under investigation. The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature, according to VSP.
