Big shakeup in The Fresno Bee baseball and softball rankings as regular season wraps up
It is the last week of high school baseball and softball regular season before playoffs begin next week.
One team making plenty of noise is the Clovis West baseball team, which took care of business last week by sweeping Clovis for its 11th straight victory.
A win at Clovis North on Tuesday means the Golden Eagles are outright Tri-River Athletic Conference champions.
Clovis West moved up to No. 2 from No. 8 behind top-ranked Liberty-Bakersfield.
The Cougars drop from the top spot to No. 5.
No. 6 Clovis North was swept by re-surging Buchanan, who is now led by interim coach Brad Fontes.
Despite a sub-.500 record, the Bears enter The Bee’s rankings at No, 25
Bullard, already clinched the County/Metro Athletic Conference, moved up five spots to No. 9.
Rankings on the softball side, meanwhile, didn’t change much except for Buchanan moving up two spots to No. 4 after defeating then-No. 4 Central, who is now No. 5.
St. Joseph remains The Bee’s top-ranked team.
Clovis North dropped to No.10 after losses to Central and unranked Clovis.
Entering the rankings is Monache at No. 25.
The Marauders defeated then-No. 15 El Diamante last week.
