Big Rapids officer accused of sexually abusing minor

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officer is accused of sexually abusing a minor.

Ryan Dornbos, who sources say has worked as a police officer for Big Rapids, the city of Newaygo and Spectrum Health, faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a person under the age of 13.

The alleged victim is a family member.

According to court records, the incidents occurred between Jan. 1, 2018, and June 1, 2023, at a home in Fremont.

Dornbos turned himself into police in Fremont and is awaiting arraignment.

News 8 reached out to the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety about Dornbos’ employment status with the department but did not hear back.
