The big George Clinton birthday homecoming show in Newark is getting bigger.
Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic will now play Friday, March 18, at the city's New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The show was moved from Jan. 21 to the new date in the midst of the COVID variant outbreak.
Music greats Nona Hendryx of Labelle and Vernon Reid of Living Colour have been added to the lineup, and an after-party in the Prudential Hall lobby with DJ Storm Norm Da General will take place after the show.
Tickets, $39 to $89, are available via njpac.org.
Clinton, who turned 80 on July 22, lived in Brick City when he formed the Parliaments in a Plainfield barbershop in the ’60s.

“Most of the kids will say their grandparents came through as soon as they find out who I am,” said Clinton of visiting Newark previously to the USA Today Network New Jersey. “All the people remember us (in Newark) because back in the ’60s we were really big with ‘Testify.’ "
“(I Wanna) Testify” was the breakthrough hit for the Parliaments in 1967. After becoming Parliament Funkadelic, they eventually landed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
