Bids for Midd-West School district field house nearly $1 million higher than expected

May 15—MIDDLEBURG — Bids for Midd-West School District's proposed field house are 40 percent higher than anticipated.

The school board "hoped" the cost would be about $2 million to build the field house featuring restrooms, locker rooms, weight room and concession area as well as a smaller building near the visitor's side of the athletic stadium with restrooms and a concession stand, board President Terry Boonie said.

The low bids submitted for general construction, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work came out to $2.8 million, Superintendent Joe Stroup said.

"The board is now reviewing it," he said.

Boonie said the board will discuss options Monday.

"Nothing is off the table," he said, adding that the district has the funds to cover the cost of the project and taxes will not be raised.

The bids will be available for 60 days.

The field house is the fourth phase of a multi-million dollar project that includes the stadium at the Middleburg campus, new fields, bleachers, a press box and sidewalks paid for with capital reserve and state reimbursement funds.
