Biden vs. Trump would be 'rematch from hell,' former lawmaker says

A 2024 presidential election pitting President Joe Biden against former President Donald Trump would be a “rematch from hell," former Republican Rep. Will Hurd said Sunday.

“The reality is two-thirds of Americans want somebody other than Donald Trump and Joe Biden. That's, like, the rematch from hell,” Hurd, who is considering his own 2024 presidential bid, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

There's evidence to support Hurd's argument that another presidential election featuring Biden and Trump is unpopular among Americans: A majority don’t want to see either candidate in the race again, according to an NBC News poll last month. But right now, both candidates are polling well ahead of the others in their fields, and a rematch seems quite possible.

In order to avoid a 2020 repeat, more voters need to turn out for the primary elections, the former Texas congressman said.

“Only about 23% of the country actually votes in primaries,” Hurd noted. “If we had more people voting in primaries, we'll see better choices in November, choices that we would actually like and be excited to vote for.”

As far as own decision on whether or not to jump in the race, that will come “very soon,” Hurd said.
