Biden to sign Ukraine aid bill and address Americans today – White House

U.S. President Joe Biden will sign a long-awaited aid bill for Ukraine on April 24, the White House announced on April 23.

The move comes after the Senate's recent bipartisan approval of the bill, which provides over $60 billion to aid the Eastern European nation.

“I will sign this bill into law and address the American people as soon as it reaches my desk,” Biden said in his statement on the Senate's passage of the national security package.

“I want to thank Leader Schumer, Leader McConnell, and all of the bipartisan lawmakers in the Senate who voted for this bill. This critical legislation will make our nation and world more secure as we support our friends who are defending themselves against terrorists like Hamas and tyrants like Putin.”

Earlier, on April 20, 311 members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted to allocate more than $60 billion to Ukraine through H.R. No. 8035, with 112 voting against.

Including aid packages for Israel and Indo-Pacific partners, the bill totaled $95 billion in aid.

Ukraine's share is more than $60 billion, with $14 billion earmarked for the purchase of military equipment. Nearly $35 billion is set aside for replenishing U.S. military stocks and funding ongoing American commitments in Europe.

The bill also obliges U.S. President Joe Biden to provide Ukraine with ATACMS ballistic missiles, which Ukrainian officials have said would increase Ukraine's strike range capabilities.

The United States could send a new aid package to Ukraine by the end of the week, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner said on April 21.
