Biden Gave ‘Voluntary Interview’ as Part of Special Counsel Probe Into Classified Docs

President Joe Biden was voluntarily interviewed by special counsel Robert Hur as part of the investigation into his handling of classified documents, the White House announced Monday.

“The voluntary interview was conducted at the White House over two days, Sunday and Monday, and concluded Monday,” White House Counsel’s Office spokesperson Ian Sams wrote in a statement.

“As we have said from the beginning, the President and the White House are cooperating with this investigation, and as it has been appropriate, we have provided relevant updates publicly, being as transparent as we can consistent with protecting and preserving the integrity of the investigation,” Sams stated.

In January, Biden’s lawyers said they found around 10 classified documents on Nov. 2 at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement that dated to his time as vice president, Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president said. Biden aides subsequently found a “small number” of additional documents with classified markings at his Wilmington, Delaware home.

Hur, a Trump-appointed former federal prosecutor, was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to lead the probe — two months after Jack Smith was appointed as special counsel to determine whether criminal charges stemming from Justice Department investigations should be brought against Donald Trump.

“I will conduct the assigned investigation with fair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment. I intend to follow the facts swiftly and thoroughly, without fear or favor, and will honor the trust placed in me to perform this service,” Hur previously said in a statement following Garland’s announcement.
