White House officials have suggested that separate bills concerning aid to Ukraine and Israel align with U.S. interests, but President Joe Biden needs time carefully examine the proposal from House Speaker Mike Johnson before making a final decision, AFP reported on April 16.

“It does appear at first blush that the speaker's proposal will in fact help us get aid to Ukraine, aid to Israel,” White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said.

“But we're waiting to get a little bit more detail before we say one way or the other.”

Previously, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that Biden was not in favor of a separate aid bill for Israel without aid for Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier said that Johnson's decision to split aid for Ukraine and Israel into separate bills is "pure politics" and a "disgrace to the world."

On April 15, Johnson introduced four separate bills to fund U.S. aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and other national security priorities.

On April 16, the speaker suggested that the aid bill for Ukraine could be brought to a vote as soon as April 19.
