BGE electric vehicle charging proposal would offer off-peak rates one-third of peak rates
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Gas and Electric is proposing that customers who enroll in its pilot electric vehicle charging program pay off-peak rates less than a third of peak day-time rates.
But peak rates would be more than current residential rates, although the utility says those who enroll should see bills stay about the same.
The rates are contained in a filing with the Maryland Public Service Commission in response to a 2011 state law. The pilot would begin in June if approved.
Participants would pay about 19 cents a kilowatt hour for all electric use during peak summer periods, and about 6 cents otherwise. That compares to about 10 cents during peak summer months.
BGE, a unit of Exelon Corp., says Maryland has more than 1,100 electric vehicles, with more than 400 in its service area.
