Better Call Behnken: Results for HOA residents who couldn’t get mail after box fell over

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Rachel Sykes says she could see it coming. Her HOA neighborhood mailbox was rusty and then it fell over in early March.

She reported the issue to the post office, but getting a new mailbox has not been easy.

After a month of complaining, they did take away the old box but left no box at all.

“They said, ‘Yeah, we’re working on it, it just takes time,'” Sykes recalled. “In talking with a bunch of employees at the main location, it’s very normal that it would take six months is what they’re telling us.”

Sykes says it’s an inconvenience for her to drive to the post office daily to collect her mail, but for others, it’s difficult.

“I know a lot of the residents that are elderly, they have their Social Security checks that get mailed to them, their medicine is mailed to them. If you’re a business professional, maybe you have business-important mail that comes to your residence.”

Less than 24 hours after Better Call Behnken got involved, two workers from the postal service showed up with a new mailbox.

The postal service sent this statement:

“The Postal Service strives to always provide the best possible service to our valued customers. We apologize for any inconvenience that may have been experienced by our Carrollwood Condominium customers due to the damaged Cluster Box Unit (CBU). Local postal officials have worked with the local HOA and corrected the situation. We appreciate the patience of our valued customers.”
