Bethel A.M.E. Church to host Saturday forum on gun violence

Bethel A.M.E. Church says it will host "A Community Forum of Gun Violence Prevention and Gun Safety."

That's at 3 p.m. this Sat., March 9 at the church, 601 Orange Ave.

Bethel's Christian Social Action Committee will be working in partnership with the Gamma Mu Lambda chapter of theAlpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., to host the discussion, covering several topics related to gun violence.

They include "statistics and trends regarding the rise of gun violence," "practical and legislative efforts to curb violence" and "the importance of legal gun ownership ... and conflict de-escalation," according to a news release.

The forum will feature Tallahassee City Commissioner Curtis Richardson, Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil and Philip Smith, president of the National African-American Gun Association.
