Bernie Williams pulls off a first on this week's episode of 25-Year-Old Baseball Cards

This is the 39th episode of our 25-Year-Old Baseball Cards series and until now, nobody had ever opened a pack of old baseball cards on our show and pulled their own card.

Enter Bernie Williams, the New York Yankees legend whose second career is as a jazz guitar player.

He did. He finally did it. Bernie Williams opened a pack of 1992 Topps and got Bernie Williams. For all of us who put this show together, it was a moment we hope for every time we film. For those of you who watch every week, we hope you enjoy it just as much. The closest we’d come before this was our Dan Pleasac episode, in which I pulled Plesac’s card and traded it to him.

As the show went on, the question became, would I get anything in my pack that was good enough to get Bernie to trade me himself. You’ll have to watch the entire episode to see the answer to that one. (I promise the payoff is good.)

If you’re new to this series, we open baseball cards from 25 years ago with various baseball people — ex-players, current players, managers, coaches, celebrity fans, etc. It all started with a few boxes of unopened cards that were sitting in my garage because my grandma bought them at Costco all those years ago. Since they’re mostly worthless, we open them with baseball people and hope for great stories.
