Berkley Days closes early amid fights

The annual Berkley Days carnival closed early Saturday evening as fighting broke out amid attendees.

Multiple fights occurred between attendees around 7 p.m. Saturday, with Berkley police on scene and additional backup responding, the Berkley Department of Public Safety said in a social media statement.

Reports of people with firearms soon caused the crowd to flee, prompting further law enforcement backup. The event was then closed for the night and police cleared the remaining crowds.

Organizers canceled Sunday's planned activities as a safety measure in light of the incident.

No serious injuries resulted from Saturday's incident and police did not recover any firearms. Officers recovered several toy firearms from attendees at the event.
