Bergen County park to get 'significant enhancements' with $1M grant
WYCKOFF — Bergen County announced a $1 million grant for "significant enhancements" to its 81-acre James A. McFaul Environmental Center wildlife sanctuary and education facility.
The county has allocated $105,000 in its 2024 budget to determine the needs and priorities of the center, said Committeeman Roger Lane, who serves as Wyckoff Township Parks Commissioner. An additional $918,750 has been included in the 2025 Capital Budget for implementing these improvements, he said.
The former pig farm includes nature trails, gardens and educational science exhibits. It is one of 21 parks encompassing 9,800 acres in the Bergen County system.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to County Executive James J. Tedesco, III, and County Administrator Thomas J. Duch, Esq., for their unwavering support and commitment to this vital asset within the Bergen County Park System," Lane said. "Their efforts help ensure the continued preservation and enhancement of this open space in Wyckoff, enriching our community and safeguarding our environment."
Lane said the Township Committee is "enthusiastic about the upcoming developments and looks forward to the continued enjoyment and educational opportunities that the James A. McFaul Environmental Center will provide."
