Bentonville’s Quilt of Parks phase one

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — New updates on Bentonville’s latest project, Quilt of Parks, near Lawrence Plaza.

Phase one is set to be complete within the next thirty days said David Wright, the Bentonville director of Parks and Recreations.

To paint a picture of the future park, Wright encouraged residents to envision strolling out of Lawrence Plaza towards the downtown square without ever feeling like they’ve left a park.

“Estimated at nearly $27 million, with the city contributing $6 million while the remainder is funded through private sources,” Wright said.

Mayor of Bentonville Stephanie Orman also weighed in on the project, urging patience from the community as the city works through the remaining three phases.

With completion anticipated by the middle of 2025, according to Mayor Orman, Bentonville residents can look forward to enjoying a vibrant and interconnected urban space that reflects the city’s commitment to community and recreation.

Approved by the City Council in 2020, the Quilt of Parks initiative aims to connect five public spaces in downtown Bentonville into one promenade. Wright highlighted that this new promenade would feature brick paving, green spaces, recreational areas, and potentially a stage for hosting events, enhancing the city’s recreational offerings.
