Bentonville mayor designates May 12-18 as Police Week

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Bentonville mayor Stephanie Orman proclaims the week of May 12-18 as Police Week.

The mayor’s office says since the first recorded death in 1786, more than 25,000 officers in the U.S. have been killed in the line of duty.

One of those officers includes a member of the Bentonville Police Department who was killed in 1997.

Orman says Police Week is a way to make sure the lives of our brave men and women are never forgotten.

“It’s really important to have the proclamation to bring awareness to what our officers are doing on a daily basis, and in particular officers that have given the ultimate sacrifice in their careers to keep our cities safe,” Orman said.

May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day. U.S. Flags will be flown at half-staff in honor of fallen officers and their families.
