Bentonville City Council approves contracts for emergency water line repair

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Bentonville City Council approved on April 23 two contracts associated with the emergency repair of the city’s main water line.

Mike Bender is the city’s water utilities director. He says since the hiring of a contractor was an emergency, the council has to waive competitive bidding and approve contracts after the work is done.

He says the process lets the city pay the contractors who repaired the water line.

“That’s our only transmission main for water to the city of Bentonville. We have the emergency backups, but those aren’t going to work on a full day-in, day-out, especially when we get into the heavier use of summers so that’s our feed,” Bender said.

Bender says a final budget adjustment will be before the city council at its next meeting on May 14.
