Bentonville, Cave Springs residents asked to conserve water as crews continue to repair collapsed water main

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The cities of Bentonville and Cave Springs are still asking residents to conserve water after a water line collapsed Tuesday night.

The 48-inch main water line collapsed around 8 p.m.

“So we mobilized teams to go isolate that area. To isolate the leak,” said Mike Bender, director of water utilities of Bentonville.

The water line lost a lot of pressure. However, Bender says they didn’t lose all of the pressure, so there is no boil water notice.

“The Health Department is aware of our situation and has no concerns of public health. By maintaining pressure in the system, there is no introduction of containments,” said Bender.

For now, Bentonville has been connected to the Rogers water system until the water line can be repaired. Cave Springs is connected to the Springdale water system. Bender says determining how bad the damage to the water line is could take some time.

“We’ve only been able to find the pipe so far. We haven’t seen the damage to know the exact extent of what the damage is,” said Bender.

Mayor of Bentonville Stephanie Orman says accidents like this one are why emergency plans are in place.

“The region itself does a great job working together behind the scenes to make sure we have emergency plans in place, and that we can make those phone calls,” said Orman.

Orman says conserving water shouldn’t impact your daily activities such as showering. She reminds residents to avoid activities like washing their cars or their fences until the issue is resolved.
