Benton County Judge Moehring confirms one death, declares disaster following severe weather

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Benton County Judge Barry Moehring confirmed one death and declared a disaster in a press conference following tornadoes and severe weather that slammed Northwest Arkansas.

Moehring says the county’s top priority is the mulitple law enforcement, fire and EMS crews are responding to search and rescue and other life safety missions.

Moehring says he has reached out to mayors throughout the county to inform them that the county activated the emergency operation center to coordinate regional response.

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying she will visit impacted areas.

Bryan and I are praying for the communities impacted by last night’s storm and the families of the Arkansans we lost.

I’ve spoken with @FEMA_Deanne, members of our federal delegation and county officials and we stand ready to provide aid and rush assistance to storm-damaged areas.

I will be doing stops in impacted areas tomorrow to personally offer assistance and help expedite resources.

According to KARK, one person was killed by the storms in Boone County and another person was killed in Baxter County.
