GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Sen. Michael Bennet and 18 senate colleagues recently sent President Biden a letter urging the president to provide legal protection and pathways to residency or citizenship for undocumented immigrants and DACA recipients in the U.S.

Bruce Talbott, co-owner of Talbott’s Mountain Gold, relies on immigrant labor during the peach harvest season. He tells WesternSlopeNow that the government needs to change current laws to help those seeking citizenship.

“It’s been 30 years since the last amnesty run. And we’ve got people that have been here that long that really do need to have an adjustment of status.”

We reached out to Sen. Michael Bennet’s office in Denver and received a statement reading “Dreamers and greencard holders married to U.S. citizens face daily uncertainty about their legal status. This uncertainty can prevent them from finding or keeping jobs, planning for their future, or starting a family. This uncertainty also harms our economy. Senator Bennet believes we need to fix our broken immigration system in a way that honors our heritage as a nation of immigrants, boosts our economy, complies with the rule of law, and secures the border, and he continues to push Congress to pass common-sense immigration reform.”

Meanwhile, President Biden introduced a comprehensive plan creating a way for millions of undocumented immigrants already in the U.S. to gain citizenship and amnesty while slowing the flow of migration into the U.S.
