Ben Affleck Says He 'Supports' Harvey Weinstein Accuser Rose McGowan: 'I Admire Her Tenacity'

Ben Affleck is lending his support to Rose McGowan after she accused the Argo actor of lying about his knowledge of Harvey Weinstein‘s history of sexual misconduct.

During an appearance on Today Friday morning, Affleck said he admires McGowan for speaking out about her experience with sexual harassment.

“I don’t really want to get into other people’s individual stories because I feel like those are their stories and they are entitled to tell as much or as little of those as they want,” he said. “I believe Rose, I support her, I really like and admire her tenacity and wish her the best.“

On Twitter last month, McGowan, 44, accused Weinstein of rape and fired off a series of angry tweets at people she thinks covered for Weinstein — including Affleck.

The actress previously called Affleck a liar after he released a statement saying the allegations “make me sick.” Asserting that she had once confided in the actor about her experience with the movie mogul, she told him to “f— off” in a tweet.

“‘GODDAMNIT! I TOLD HIM TO STOP DOING THAT’ you said that to my face,” McGowan previously wrote in the tweet. “The press conf I was made to go to after assault. You lie.”

When asked if he was aware of Weinstein’s behavior, Affleck told Today he “knew he was sleazy.”

“I knew he was sleazy and kind of a bully, but unfortunately that wasn’t that uncommon. I was brand new to Hollywood…I was 24 years old, I never made a movie and didn’t know much of anything really,” he said.

Weinstein famously championed Affleck and Matt Damon’s 1997 film Good Will Hunting, which he produced and distributed through his former company Miramax. Affleck and Damon two took home an Oscar for the film, which they wrote and starred in together.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 50 women since The New York Times and The New Yorker documented decades of alleged sexual misconduct and sexual assault involving a number of women in detailed articles in early October.

A spokesperson for Weinstein previously told PEOPLE in a statement that “any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances.”

He’s currently in Arizona seeking treatment.
