Belvidere police: Three men overdose at park, one dead

BELVIDERE — One of three people to overdose over the weekend in a Belvidere Park has died, police said.

About 10:25 p.m. Sunday, the Belvidere Police Department was called to Prairie Fields Park at 1111 Fairgrounds Road for a report of a medical emergency.

Belvidere police along with officers from the Boone and Winnebago County Sheriff's departments, and Cherry Valley and Rockford Park District police departments responded.

Belvidere officers found two men, 31, and 44 years old, unconscious. Another man, 26, indicated he was overdosing. Belvidere officers began life saving measures including administering Narcan until paramedics arrived. All three men were transported to area hospitals.

Belvidere police detectives were called to the scene to investigate.

About 9:20 a.m. Monday, the Belvidere Police Department was informed the 44-year-old man had died.

The name of the man was not released.

Anonymous reports can be made 24 hours a day by calling Boone County Crimestoppers at 815-544-7867. Persons with information leading to an arrest can be awarded a cash reward up to $1,000.
