Domenico Tedesco will remain Belgium national team coach until the 2026 World Cup in a two-year contract renewal announced on Thursday by the national federation RBFA.

German-Italian Tedesco, 38, was appointed last year in succession of Roberto Martinez.

The Red Devils went unbeaten in their qualifying campaign for this year's European Championships in Germany where they face Slovakia, Romania and a play-off winner in the group stage.

Regardless of the outcome of the Euros the former RB Leipzig and Schalke coach is to lead the team to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

"We did not hesitate for a moment about Domenico Tedesco's contact extension," RBFA CEO Piet Vandendriessche said in a statement.

"With a rejuvenated squad, he achieved a fantastic qualifying campaign for the European Championship. We are therefore happy to extend the partnership for two years, and look positively to the future."

Tedesco said: "For me it is a privilege and an honour to be the national coach of Belgium. All of us on the coaching team really enjoy the task.

"Working with the team, but also with all employees in the federation. I identify 100% with the Red Devils. That's why I'm very pleased that we're continuing on the path we've chosen together."

The news came ahead of friendlies against Ireland in Dublin on March 23 and England at Wembley three days later which serve as Euro tune-up matches.
